Hi.. I am just about to start putting my LJ back together and im not sure what brand of door rubbers to buy. Does anybody have any suggestions ? I have seen on a mates car that he did away with the rubbers on the door and fitted VX - VY pinchweld with the closing rubbers already on them. They seem to seal ok.. Whats your thoughts.. I have heard that door rubbers are pricks to fit...
Cheers Shep

GENUINE Mazda RX7 door rubbers do the treat perfectly & close sweet...

Never heard of that before have you got any pics and what model and year rx7?

What modification did you have to do?

I had rare spares ones fitted to my car and doors shut like crap luckly found some
nos originals and fitted those the doors shut perfect.

when you look at original rubbers and rare spare they are different on the piller section that is why they don't shut correctly. The scotts are the exact same as rare spares.

Rare spares was going to make some new door rubbers but not sure on the progress.

Scotts rubbers use RSP rubbers and are too large for the channell mine are still in the boot of the car not fitted as i tried about 10 times and they dont fit unless you stretch them miles to the extreme of ripping and they still dont fit i will give them away . cheers Dazza

Spectrum I believe use the same supplier as Rares
So i'm sure it would be the same

I'm interested to hear more about this RX7 door rubbers..
What series RX7? and what mods did you have to do to make it fit? Not overly hard i.e I can do it at home?

RS now have new rubbers. They are a 2 rubber type with softer rubber on the seal and better fitment into the channels. Got ours from Thompson Auto rubbers (Ringwood Vic). We had the "old type" for months trying to fit them, adjust, close doors etc.. Didn't get any refund when we got the new ones just an admittal they were NBG!
There will be a lot of "old ones" around so make sure you ask if they are the new type. Only came out 'bout 4 months back.

thats what pi**es me off. I too bought a set of the previous rubbers and they wouldn't fit properly either....and to make things worst , they flogged me off a can of "rubber magic" to make them fit. I'll tell you one thing , there wern't no magic in my can....A refund or partial refund , good idea....

This is a topic I was going to ask about in 12 mths but it looks like you have got it sorted.
When I did my Monaro the boot rubber just didnt fit so I just fitted my original (lucky it was still ok )so how have the torana boot rubbers fitted from Thompson auto rubbers ?

Do you find that generally their kit for an LC coupe fits ok?

Is rarespares the same kit ?

I found that apart from the boot on the Monaro & the small rubber where your door closes & meets the rear quarter window that kit wasnt too bad.

Cheers Andrew

went and asked to have a look at the new LC LJ coupe door rubbers today...

they look and feel better. They are no longer chunky and solid feeling like the old ones.

How did you go with the fit Dazza??

Just wondering how the new ones seal. Do they whistle at high speed??

Hey guys return your old rubbers that dont fit and get the new batch from RSP they fit pretty good and my door even shuts nicelly .Done the job in10 to 15mins with a little bit of CRC in the channel and a plastic wedge i fed it along the channel pushing the lip in the channel it was a piece of pissss to do .All you need then is a bit of patience to stretch it into shape so all the holes line up for the pins and a bit of contact glue to seal the ends and maybe under a section or 2 and the jobs done . Dont hesitate just get the new ones .....HoldenOn Dazza

hi guys.having trouble with door rubbers from spectram.they came in rsp bags.the right hand side appears to be to long at top rear corner [ the moulded section ]with all the pins in place.the left hand side appears to be a little short around the door lock area.wondering if any body has similar problems.

all come from rare spares.

Even he said they are crap that was his exact words.

Beware.
Some sellers are still selling the OLD type door rubbers.

It is highly recommended you view the NEW type at Rare Spares to know the difference.
This wont cost you anything!

I am assuming Scotts is giving you feedback from past issues with the
OLD type door rubbers.
According to your post he isn't even aware there is a NEW type.

It stands to reason that sellers would want to off-load any old stock.
(not saying scotts is doing this, I live locally, use this business heaps, and found them
honest and reliable)

Beware on Ebay

So the verdict is that the new rubbers are good?

If so, I'll have to look into getting a set towards the end of the year.

the new rubbers from rare spares appear to be good. fairly easy to fit.i didnt use any lubricant. doors needed firm pressure to close when first fitted i just left them closed for a week they close a lot easier now.i purchased mine through spectrum at st marys. PS before fitting just check the front pin on the r/h/side is in the right position. my first set it was to far back. they changed it no worries. hold them to gether by the moulded corners and if there both in the position

Guys I am worried.

I bought a full rubber kit ( LJ Coupe) which came direct from rare spares in about December January.

How can you tell which is old or new, I havent fitted them yet .

Any pics you guys have would be great as I dont want this to go down the track and have any agro with them.

Years ago I bought some rarespares rubbers for my LJ and they were just awful and I didnt use them, I had assumed they would have improved and so bought a full kit.

Let me know how to tell them apart.

Cheers and thanks
