308 Rocker Covers for Roller Rockers

Will standard rocker covers fit over roller rockers on a 308. If not, where can I source standard looking rocker covers large enough to fit. Thanks

I'm not sure if they clear i put custom alloy covers on, but if they dont fit you can always gain some clearance by using 2 gaskets together.

ya have to get yaself a set of tall rocker covers dude!! :spoton:

i seen a set of those chrome rocker covers with the 308 emblem
on ebay last night for about 70 bucks (brand new)

I think he wants to use the standard covers for the "sleeper engine bay" look, or he has an original looking car. In which case the aftermarket covers would be of no use. Bolt it all up and stick the standard cover over them, with no gasket. If it clears (this is keeping in mind that when the cam is in, they will be alternating in open & closed as you go along the bank), then you're set. If it doesn't, try with a gasket (keeping in mind that a single gasket will compress when torqued) etc.

Don't have to turn the motor over or anything. Not too hard to find out

Standard covers will fit with 2 gaskets up to 0.550" lift using screw in studs and roller rockers (I don't know about the bolt on adjustables) .

GOOD QUESTION RONALD ..

i learnt the hard way and destroyed a set of standard covers ... they have dents in the tops anyhow , i have replaced them with a set of holden black alloy type but would prefer myself to have the original ones or a higher version or the originals .

not so sure about running 2 gaskits , has anyone tried this with out getting oil leaks ??

you could use a metal plate/spacer between two gaskets.
just a thought. it would save oil leak problems with just using two gaskets alone.

You could also use contact adhesive to glue the 2 rocker cover gaskets together and also glue them to the rocker covers. Easy to remove if necessary.

Ive got a set of heads here with YT5009 roller rockers on them, standard covers and a single gasket, inside the covers look ok doesnt seem to be any hitting anywhere

I have a set of yella terra YT5033 roller rockers on the 308, whats the lowest profile rocker covers that would clear them? Need to clear the brake booster which touches the finned alloy holden bagged ones.
Any help much appreciated.

I had roller rockers installed on my engine for my restoration. I am wanting to keep it looking pretty stock so I had to get a set of spacers like this made up so I can use the original covers. (The engine builder actually paid for them. He had left them off the quote so said that was his mistake and had to wear the cost...)

Mine had been notched or rather had the fins ground down under the booster. There is a hole there now, not sure of the booster rubbed its way through or the ground them too far and were always damaged. Never had the booster off until two weekends ago.

How tempted are you to abandon engineering and put 253 decals on the rocker covers and air cleaner of your new big block 308?

I still have two 308/5.0 blocks with old NSW Police numbers on them from 25 years ago or more. One of them is an early Brougham one with HP on it. Funny thing that early 253 were blank on the side…. It’s an old trick as early 179 and 149 were the same, the 149 was blank. I’ve seen a few blocks over the years with 186/202 bore size blank on the sides.
