anyway,i bought it as a 6 cylinder colum shift manual,in that lovely shade of shit brown.it was all original, down to the bench front seat and the hub caps.it was sold new from bathurst holden, and had been at yass its whole life.
anyway,we got it home and stripped it to a shell.most of the bits went into the bin.as they do with all good projects
when it was a bare rolling shell,i sent it straight to the blasters to see what was under that original looking paint.he blasted it inside and out,and there was no previous repairs anywhere and not one spec of rust.its was a dead straight, clean shell.the blaster offered me a sum of cash,as even he said that you'll 'never find one like that again'.but his offer was rejected as i knew i was on a good thing
as i was way to busy with work, and wanted to keep the project moving,i took the car to a well know local chassis/hotrod builder.he enlarged the trans tunnel on the passanger side for the use of a powerglide, fitted welded and channeled chassis rail connectors and he also mini tubbed the rear end.while he was at it i had him remove the hump for the spare tyre.
after that costly little episode,i took the car back to a mates shed,so he could do some work in the engine bay for me.
the battery tray was removed, the chassis rails were shaved,as were the seams on the firewall. all the holes were welded up,along with a heap of other bits and pieces.
at this time, the car was fitted with a chromoly cage that was also andra tech inspected, and the diff was fitted.
then it was off to the panel shop to have the rest of the body work done and to have the bay painted.with the whole car in hi-fill and the bay now painted,we loaded it up to come back to my mates workshop for some more work.
the car sat in the one spot for a few months because i was to busy with work to do anything on it.anyway,i decided that i wanted to use the car to promote my business at local shows and to drive it around a bit,so we removed the cage.the main reason was that it would really stuff up what i had in mind for the trim.which is suposed to be the highlight of this car.i'm not going to say much about the trim, but it should be pretty good i hope
right now the car is back in the chassis shop getting the front guards modified (for some big billets) and its also getting an adjustable panard rod.it should be finished there next week, and from there it'll go back to the panel shop to be painted.
so i've just been getting parts reconditioned and ready for its return
here is some pics from last year:
