I picked this one up amongst a ute load of stuff the other day. It has the obvious mini spool, but I cant see a ratio stamped on it.  Do the other numbers mean anything??

Not yet Clay.  Troy has got me thinking though. I reckon I can see a Toyota symbol next to the 35. Also, if you look at the top picture, the shaft on the pinion gear is longer than normal.

I think you are right about a Toyota symbol .

Searching the net came up with a Toyota Crown ms45/ms55 diff that is 8x35 and it looks to be a Holden banjo

I,m guessing the 8 is the pinion teeth and the 35 is the crown wheel teeth ?

Local Toyota Crowns had banjo centres but F@4D wheel stud pattern.

31 spline be nice Laurie,

 & the 4.375:1 ratio @ 4000rpm with 2 metre rear wheel tread circumference would be 109Kph in 4th. :3gears:

If I get time today I will dig it back out and count teeth and splines.

That ratio might have been used in a manual Toyota Crown Utility. The utes often had a lower diff ratio than sedans while the manual trans versions had an overdrive.

I counted the teeth and yes, it is 8-35.  Seems like a very short ratio for any major racetrack in Australia.

1967 Crown shows 4.375 for 3spd manual and auto. 4.111 for 4spd manual.

Late 60's Crown is showing 4.375:1, see brochure below:

By 1971 it is showing 4.375 for the 2300 3spd manual, 4.111 for 2600 3spd manual, 2300 4spd manual with 4.111 and 2600 manual 4spd with 3.90:1.

As I said. if you read that fine print, the 3-sp manual had an overdrive.

Those with the overdrive had a 4.875:1 rear axle in that brochure Terry. The standard 3spd manual and auto for that year were 4.375. That's how it looks anyway.

1967 looks like all 3spd manual had overdrive of 0.7:1. Overdrive looks to be gone by the '71 Crown.
