Cousin is taking on a love job...vt 304/4l60e donor car.

Trying to scrounge up as many factory parts to do conversion cheaply then afterwards if owner likes it he can spend money to make more & road legal.

They have lh/x engine brackets

I'm giving them hq sump + pickup also commodore ling nose crank + w/pump pulley.

Was thinking they could modify trimatic trans member & use stock 6cyl yrimatic tailshaft?

Weld in ring to fit vt fuel pump?

Just planning stage & scrounging for parts.

You can use the pulleys on the EFI engine.

Use cast iron exhaust manifolds but use V6 pipe plates as the V8 ones are bigger and foul the sump. Not sure if they fit Torana though, work in a Holden but one of the original Torana ones differs to Holden so might have issues on same side.

TH350 crossmember, best to get one off EBay with Engineering papers.

Will need a V8 banjo and tailshaft will bee too long.

Cousin's job is get it in there & get it running...he wants all parts ready to go try to do job in a week or two & owner takes car back home to finish off all the small time consuming parts.

Headers I told them to get steel vn to vs calais or hsv as that is what I used on lc gtr where the bottom was modified to suit.

Used stock trimatic tailshaft on bitsa vk although tad long to street drive but ok to start & move car ironically stock tailshaft was perfect in 304efi lc gtr but it was getrag.

Wonder if lc/j tailshaft work better.

Told owner if like end result put b/w diff in although want to keep it on 13's with hubcap or similar look.

Not a fan of serpentine setup I do have pulleys to make it v belt with long nose pump but prefer short nose pump single row kingy pulleys.

I want to have parts together so it's ready to do end of year.

Might have a scrounge around shed this weekend.

All of the stainless exhaust manifolds I’ve had were cracked. That is why I always use the cast iron ones.

Standard Torana shaft will not fit, too long. In the past I have dummied up a stock TH400 tailshaft with a 1-tonner front yoke for a 4L60/4L60E behind a 308/5.0 in a Holden and it’d work. The TH400 shaft is much shorter than 3/4spd/Trimatic, but 4L60 is even shorter. The TH400 yoke is much bigger though. See here

Will have to find out if lc/j tailshaft will work or let him know it's an added cost.

Never had hsv steel headers crack but only got drivers side...do have cast iron items & some bends but don't like them.

If can find steel calais/stato/hsv headers then will have spare set of cast iron casties.

Might have to pick them up at Wyong.

Sent a message to owner this afternoon price list of parts to go with what I have no reply .

Owner came by today to pick up parts to help get project started.

He did not realise was fair bit of labour to do it properly untill started to explain it.

Now wondering how people ran fuel lines & fuel pump setups on their square toranas.

Its not cheap but the best way is to do it is get the tank modified to take an MRA by welding in an MRA ring. For a Torana that will probably be a VE or Falcon one. To run the VT engine as per original you want an MRA with a fuel return, so have to run a return line. I'm not too sure if you can convert the VT to run using an original VE MRA where the fuel pressure regulation is done at the MRA, so you don't need a return line. It just means you remove the regulator off the engine and plug the end of the fuel rail. Not sure how this affects the "accelerator pump" function on a VT engine though, you'd have to ask a tuner. Most of those GMH/Holden return fuel style setups have a pressure regulator referenced to inlet manifold vacuum which provides a pressure spike when you hit the throttle and more fuel gets injected. VT may not need that though?

Ideally you'd use the VT-VZ kit from the below link so you could use a VT MRA for a return or a VZ for returnless, but it is probably too tall for an LX tank. If you open the links for each they tell you the tank height range each sender works with.

https://www.efihardw...Conversion-Kits

Note that I used a VZ MRA in my HK as the tank is tall. I replaced the original fuel line with a 3/8" one, and have a high flow MRA as the engine will eventually be a 400+hp 377ci SBC (stroked 350), but for a VT 5litre the original LX fuel line should be fine, if you are running it with a return you need to replace the rubber portions with EFI pressure hose and clamps.

Yep already told owner using as much of vt donor car is best way to do it also weld in kit for fuel pump.

Will only have one week to pull both cars apart & get torrie running then it goes back to owner running or not.

I said we can dodge it a little vl external pump & braze a 1/2 inch line into sender unit also return line in filler neck just to get it running as that was what we did to my gtr 20yrs ago

I'd like to see feed & return line done plus battery tray on driver's side before v8 goes in but probably wishful thinking.

Parts list at moment.

Lh torana engine brackets
Kingswood sump & pickup
Vn cast iron headers & 1 vn steel header
Kingswood copper radiator for mock up.
Single row w/pump pulley
85amp vn/vs alternator.
Spare vt v6 memcal to send away for 98ron v8 tune.

What side VN header do you need ? I have 1 in the shed . I think LHS

Engine mount bracket dimensions are in the Torviki .

We are in Sydney.

Have to double check but fairly sure passenger side was missing.

Told them to get kingy brackets just in case but could probably slot holes to move engine on mounts if clearance issue with fuel rails or whatever.

Have a look at what I did on my SLR. I didn't find it very difficult to do. Works well, managed to retain my original fuel gauge and sender.

Read the whole thread very similar ideas on what I thought mods would be like heater box & fuel lines although not sure about airbox fitment as this one has airflow meter to fit in there with airbox maybe will work with vn airbox v8 elbow but won't look as ice.
