Hi There

I have an LC with a 308 in it. The engine mounts appear to be either HQ V8 or LH/LX V8. Would the original K Frame towers that the mounts bolt to have been modified in any way to fit the V8 engine mounts or do they bolt straight on? Its an old conversion, done in 2000.

Cheers

Nando

No they don’t have to b modified at all….hq and lx bolt straight up but I think the latter sits the engine a little higher.can you provide some photos of your mounts..what seems to b the problem..

cheers maz

Photo below. No the easiest to take.

I am going through a re-engineering process, long story, and the engineer wants me to get the welds certified (they are 20+ years old.

The oringal report says the engine mounts are mounted on the standard trunnions on the K Frame so my assumption is these haven't been modified. I have googled K frame pics and the mounting tower looks standard.

Is there a short version of the long story?

Previously engineered in 2000 with a 253, want to get it re-engineered with a 308.

Has anyone seen if there are any drawings of the HQ V8 mounts on this site? I have seen the LX/LH V8 Bracket drawing up, want to see the HQ bracket drawn up so I can compare the holes. I have read that HQ sit the 308 lower and LH/LH ones sit it higher (which is want I need.

I have read that one set of mounts sit the 308 further back but not sure which is which.

I have HQ mounts in mine and I need the motor to go up a touch and back 5 or 6 mm.

Just on that, I have to increase the clearance between the sump and K frame, I got told its ok to grind it a little, I need to increase 8-9mm, seems too much to grind but am not sure. There is a weld there, I would probably grind it off and need it re welded by a certified welder.

Thoughts?.

Thanks yel, I had seen that picture of the comparisons, it would suggest their is a 8mm difference in height but they are aligned vertically hence no difference in front to back positioning correct?

The torana and HQ mounts only vary in height, not front to rear position.

This is easily dealt with by slotting the holes which I did on my holden V8 LJ to get the engine where I wanted it.

If the sump is too close to the crossmember you could reprofile the sump. I used an aftermarket one. I think it was an ASR.

Thanks Rexy. Slotting the holes might be the go, how do lock it in position though. You could argue that if the bolts become loose enough, the engine slide around in the slots.

It has an aftermarket sump in it already, changing or modifying the sump means engine out.
