Hi.
I know it's a long shot. But does any one recognize the plus and wire in the photo? It looks brown, but I'm sure it's not the ones for the back of the instrument cluster.
(I brought this as a project car... Already disassembled, otherwise i would have labeled things as I took them off.)
It looks familiar, but I just can't place it. And yes i have looked at the wiring diagram, but I can't seem to find the answer there.
Thanks I'm advance.

Does this come out of the harness near the main engine connector ? It could be the solenoid wire for the Trimatic kickdown.

Hi.

I think tacho.  On cars without the sports dash this just sat tucked in behind the big main plug. The yellow wire from the main plug provides power to the coil (I think).  The dark brown wire certainly heads over to the left side of the engine.  I will have a look at mine in a couple of hours.

I have the same wire on my LH and 95% sure its the tacho but mine is not wired up because of a electric dizzy

Stick a multi-meter on the brown dash wire to check for continuity

Cheers for the replies everyone. However it is not the Tacho wire. On the back of the instrument cluster where the tacho goes is also a male spade terminal. And I have identified the brown wire behind the dash with a female connector for this. I should have shown it better but the plug in my photo is also a male spade terminal, so would not connect to the rear of the instrument cluster.

Have you tested the wire for continuity to rule out it being the tachometer wire? The wire that Shiney005 shows is the tachometer patch lead that installs between the male spade type plug you have and the ignition coil.

I'll double check tonight after work.   Cheers.

Hi Guys.
Thanks everyone, Shiney/Brad were bang on. The wire was indeed the tacho. Why i didn't come to that conclusion myself was I only had the standard wiring diagram, and that showed only one yellow wire going to the coil. Now I'll just sort out another wire to connect to the coil and I'll be away laughing.
Cheers.

If you know of any six cylinder cars that had the sports dash the wire will have the same ends. You will have to shorten it though.
