I am actually amazed that he lives in Australia.  These leeches are usually from India and Africa.  At least the one who scammed me for Torana parts was. He only got 100 bucks from me before I realised what was going on. I managed to get four bank accounts closed that were in his name.

Scammers are  low pricks for sure.  They may be  in desperate circumstances, but  no excuse.

There was a feature story in the AFR yesterday that dealt with financial/crypto scams that have got Aussies recently.

The scale  is breathtaking.

Testimonies from tradies who have lost their entire super balance, school teacher losing 2-300k, young women 50k, then a personal loan as well.

There was 100,000 names in their database, 40k were Aussies.....this is just ONE scam system.

Apparently our Aus. laws are loopholed such that  it works like this- ( as i understand it)

The scammers has ASIC rego & ABNs so it looks legit.

There are Aussie 'straw' company directors. When it hits the fan, they get a slap on the wrist, ( as they claim were just paid to be directors and never had any day to day  involvement )

The  overseas masterminds are not able to be touched.

Next week, another 'straw' director  is found, another 'business' set up and do it all again.

The overseas operators  of the scam contact the Aussie.

Over a few weeks  of 'pretend trading' , presented as 'education' or whatever, they befriend and praise up the Aussie and report to them how they are making fortune on paper.

Thus, the Aussie agrees to deposit a small sum and go live.  Next day they are advised they have doubled their money etc.

The Aussie then piles in with 50 - 300k or whatever, same result , amazing returns, official account balance sheets supplied etc. Can't do wrong.

The Aussie then asks for a withdrawl..............crickets, no email, no phone, no money. Gone.

I guess most people think they wouldn't fall for  it, but they get quite tricky.... one lady was asked to deposit more into her trading account so she could really capitalise on her new found wealth, apparently as she was doing it, she got a call from "the Commonwealth Bank" saying there was someone fiddling with her account. A minute  later she got a call from the scammer saying the same thing. She was advised to put all her account  into a "trust" account or whatever,  until someone could figure  out what was going  on........she transfered it.....the  phone went dead...end  of story, end  of her money. The was  no Commonwealth  Bank, there is none  of her  money left.

So sad.

I know its sad this happens, but why the hell do people fall for it? Who places a deposit of significant $ before going and looking? 95% of the time if it looks too good of a deal its a scam.

You have to be suspicious of almost everything that appears on your phone or email nowadays
The bastards are too clever with computer trickery
It’s easier than ever to rip people off, they don’t even need to buy a balaklava
