Hey guys,

I was just thinking that we should make our lil community a bit more official and make a club out of it, maybe one in each state or something. We already have this fantastic forum! Maybe if we branched out into official clubs we would have more runs and events, which means more interaction with members!

Just say you want to join the club, with an annual fee of say $30 or something (or wateva a membership of a car club costs these days) included in that price you get "GIVEN" (get past the copyright stuff) Official GMH-Torana Window sticker for your torry! And all cruises are planned for the year. And also the membership fees would help pay for this website to stay up and running and pay for running costs.

How hard is to to register as an official car club, so club registrated cars can be used etc?

Then Maybe once a year or every few years we have a massive australia wide get together with all the members.

Im sure most people on here would be more than happy to pay a fee to be an Official Member of GMH-Torana and get your GMH Sticker etc.

This was just a thought i had in my head, if u have any more ideas or suggestions (or even dreams) feel free to add them!

Anyway just pondering, im interested in what all have to say!

I think it's got some potential 253toranaSS, everyone here loves a cruise and a get together, and the knowledge passed around is invaluable, however (I imagine) a registered club would take a lot of someone's time and effort. I'm not in a car club so I don't know all the ins and outs, but your idea is a good one.
Perhaps a chat to someone like the VTC or Brett (LXCHEV) could help with what's involved, I don't think he's the president, but I'm pretty sure he's got his finger on the pulse of the Eastsiders.
The idea of set cruises would take a lot of the mucking around out of organising them here....they seem to go for 10 pages before anyone agrees to go!!
And the fee of membership is a great idea too, a great way to support the forum.
Keep this one alive...I'm keen to see what others think.

It seems to me that most states already have a torana club of some sort. Rather than stating another club, perhaps its possible to affilate the forum to the existing clubs. I used to be a member of the Combined Torana club of WA, but living up here its just not worth it(sorry guys) because I cant go on any runs etc... But I would be happy to pay for some sort of membership through the CTCCWA for the forum. Just my thoughts on the idea

Sounds like a good idea to me! Might take alot of effort to get running. Alot of people can't make plans for cruises because of family, work or other commitments though which will be one problem but i don't mind paying a annual fee to keep gmh-torana.com running.

I was thinking of the very same thing only yesturday, so of course i think it would be a good idea. As stated above talk to Brett (LXCHEV) and also Peter_uc from this forum he is the president of the VTC.

great idea but gee what a shitload of work to create.... maybe easier to make all the state clubs affiliates and organise runs etc through their committees... as far as keeping this site alive I am sure when i asked the question a while ago I was told rares may have something in the pipeline....

maybe we should just have state sections... with a moderator for each section which can organise a cruise every now and again ?

This is already in mod discussion and has been for alittle while
Being a national forum there are issues that need to be worked out
Stickers are pending once we work out the legal side of using the names and logos

The sad thing about "clubs" is that alot of people don't want to join them because of the "cliques" and infighting and bitching in them
We don't want to start something that will come back and bite us in the arse.

I for one don't want to join the local club.... I don't think its for me at this time.
So involving the local club might be difficult at this point for me.
If the club wants to include us on their runs etc thats fine with me. But I'd say they would rather we all sign up as members of their club for that.

Ifm anyone else wants to organise a cruise or social night be my guest.

I like the forums just being the forums, great for information Australia wide. Don't mind paying a subscription to keep the forums going though.

Have a local club, which takes heaps of time, and provides for 90% of my driving/cruising requirements. At the present stage I'm the President and one of the founding members of the Canberra Torana Club.

Seen heaps of forums that decide to turn into Clubs. Seems to be more foruming than cruising though. Also, the Australia wide thing gets a bit out of hand.

Just my thoughts, good idea, but I think there are other alternatives.

well im in! im willing to do what it takes to get a tasmanian torana club going... if u guys suply the web stuff,,, ill mod it, if u like, and try organise whateva i can...

in adition,(lol, <<< sounds good eh) the clubs could be like an extended social club of gmh torana, useing the gmh torana banner to bring together a group of torana enthusiast to show off and cruise together...

id be willing to pay the anual fee of whateva it costs to keep it up and running... if u admins could arange discounts on club events, such as the typical dyno days, or track days.. or whateva...

cheers michael

It's a very interesting idea Matty my boy! I can totally see why you and many others like the idea (I do too). It's the sort of thing though, that if you want to do it, you can't do it half-assed. In my personal experience, this means LOTS OF TIME! You need a dedicated committee who are willing to work together, and like I said if you want to do it properly and professionally, it will absorb ridiculous amounts of your time. The "behind-the-scenes" stuff is what it's all about, and most people don't have the slightest clue just how much hard work and effort goes into this kind of stuff. You gotta keep motivated all the time too, and it never stops. I've been heavily involved with the Cruisers for nearly 4 solid years now, I kid you not it feels like a 2nd job sometimes. But is it worth it? BLOODY OATH!!! I'm sure everyone else on here involved with the other clubs will say the same thing. It's always up to the enthusiasts to keep the clubs alive.

Also, as a few others have said, and Yella in particular, being involved in the local clubs already absorbs a lot of time and satisfies the urges for cruises and events. However I would still be all for it if something forum-related was started. I would happily join and attend runs etc as a general member (would love to see what that feels like!), but I won't be putting my hand up for a committee position! That's what you youngen's need to be doing! Get stuck into it!

PS. Am more than happy for you to pick my brain with any questions you might have.

Rock on dude, and all the best with it!

One thing that i love about these forums is that no damm politics or at least its kept to a minimum. A club idea sounds good but like datto sais lets not do sumthin that might bite us back on the bum.

I dont think that Tim V8gent when creating this site and forums ever expected it to grow into what it is today. I think if we give the mods a little more time that they will fix it all and make things much more plesent for us all soon. These forums are bigger then a car club and it would take a shit load of time, effort and money to do what your sugesting Matt. the idea does sound good tho so dont let me bring it all down for you.

John

Hmmm.... they're all good points.
I suppose all we really need is some stickers, an annual forum fee, and a cruise dairy.

I'd like to say thanks to everyone who has posted in this thread, For showing their loyalty and enthusiasm in making this forum even BETTER than the great place weve got today! It really makes me happy to see members enjoying this forum enough to want to take it further! Good on every single one of you, this place wouldnt be what it is without you!

About the club issue though, As has been perfectly pointed out above i think that this structure would create too much work for everyone to handle and it would definitely change the forum from what it is today.

I personally am not a big fan of clubs as datto pointed out as ive seen some very nasty stuff go on when things turn a bit sour. I dont want this place to become so political with different groupes ( or cliques as someone said) bitching and backstabbing. For this reason alone i'm not terribly keen on becoming a club!

However, something does need to be done to enable us to accept donations from our member base to help us offset te costs of hosting, and the nice things we all want like stickers, and maybe one day even t-shirts etc. THe mod and admin team are curently discussing this, and we hope to have a resolution shortly to enable us to begin doing something with these ideas.

Once again thanks to you all, Youve helped build a great place to come and shoot the breeze, talk torries and share your knowledge!

Cheers!

I don't want this thread to go off track, but I thought as an idea for fund raising for the forum we could get some shirts made up.
I played around with this idea (very quickly), what do you think? It's only a roughy, but you get the idea....I know a bloke who's a screen printer (have to check if he's still doing it) and thought I could approach him for costs depending on the interest shown.
(Please place in appropriate section if you're not happy with it here Mods.)

OK, I'll see what the reaction is over the next few days - week, and then I'll hunt down prices etc.
I'll include an LC/LJ and an LH/LX.
I can include UC's if only to not offend the UC drivers, however, I'm thinking of the KISS phillosophy here.
I can enquire about a logo or collage on the back of all models if you're interested, this will bump up the price of course.
Has everyone seen the Torana The Great design?
I'll get a pic and post it, the back has LC/J and LH/X , you'll get the gist.
I can design a few more if you like.
Let me know.
How about LXCHEV and Colin's GTR? 2 nice blue Torries....mmm, got me thinking now!

Hey all,

well just to throw in my opinion, i think matty its a great idea. But can i ask have you ever been in any car clubs?

Its a great idea, but like most have said, its soo much work, and who out of this forum would stand up to the plate and do everything? Im sure its great in theory, but when it comes down to it seriously, who has time on here to spend most nights working out stuff, atleast until the club was up and running.

As it is when there is a cruise on, there are lots of people who cant make it, due to work, or family commitments, so to make it a club, isnt necasarily going to get more people along. And even car clubs have times where finding events or things to do becomes hard.

As most of you know im in two car clubs, to add another one to it, would probably kill me, cos i barely get to go on eh runs these days, cos theres always an eastside thing on.

And then while i havent been on the comittee for either, ive sat by and watched my dad be a treasurer and numerous other comittee positions over the years, and well it doesnt stop. Theres a normal meeting, a comittee meeting, theres each night he gets some new memberships to process, keeping the books in line, and thats just his job. There is still organising runs and keeping in contact with other comittee members. It takes up a bit of his time. just ask mum, she whinges all the time.

And i know how she feels, cos i then have to go thru it again with brett. He does newsletters which take him a couple solid weeks to make, he is heavily incolved in the club, which means he never misses a run, he goes to all the meetings, which they have more of in eastside, (comittee ones that is) and yes at times it drives me insane!!

Thats just my point of view anyway, just trying to show you from a partner to somene on a commitee can have an effect on things.

But if you guys want to go for it im all there for it, but just really sit down and think if your interested, sit down with loved ones, and work out if you have time and the full on enthusiasm you need to run a club. And then if you do and there are a few more the same way i think it could really work. But as brett says, you cant just go half assed about it, there has to be dedication!!!

Ill shut up now, hehe
