Well after many years and many hours of envious reading of everyone else's buildups on Here I am finally doing my rig. The car was rebuilt in 1988 And although it has been garaged all its life its Starting to show its age.Fortunately it's almost rust free so very little work on that side of things which is gr8. bumpers need rechroming ( yes chrome on black is the only way to go IMO) The doors need a little work to get them back as they aren't perfectly straight. The list goes on. Lots of pics to come and best of all I have found a couple of very helpful and friendly businesses to do all the hard stuff. More details on them to come also. Fingers crossed this isn't all to painful :-)

Well have had a couple of dramas as my plans changed a little. Initially i was just going to do the body and odd bits here n there but once the car was stripped it got me motivated to go the interior as well. Although the inside was done reasonably well all those years ago with velour this n that and the Scheel brock commodore front seats im taking it back the the good ole original seats with black and grey golfball. Proving hard was getting hold of some front seats to suit rebuild PLUS ditching the LX rear seat and trying to pick up the original LH type rear seat. The bumpers came back from the chromers and was very very happy with the result.

Old rims are on ,few parts here n there stripped off ready to go for panel and paint

Posted Image

I'll be ebaying all this interior including the door trims. Hopefully someone with a Brock commodore will appreciate these seats more than i can.

Posted Image

Im going with the LX grille badge instead of the Torana across the front. Yeah i know but each to their own. It took me a year to find a complete badge but it was in very poor shape so i thought what the hell ill give it to the chroming place for a bit of lovin. The badge was in such bad condition i thought id end up throwing it out so i had nothing to lose. To my surprise it came out better than expected. All i had to do was paint the black in. This pic was after 1 coat. I gave it 3 so the black is nice n solid.

Posted Image

A start has been made on the car which is great. Like i thought rust things are great but the screens had to come out and i have to say i was getting ready for it there.

Posted Image
Posted Image

As it turns out once the screens came out not even a dot of rust ! Soooo damn relieved :)

Moving onto the interior side i have been banging my head against a wall trying to buy some seats locally or even finding someone willing to ship them over here. I managed to buy some A1 seat plastics off ebay a few months back so that part was covered. I bought the seats out of the local rag in the dark and once i got them home i have to say i had mixed feelings. The foam in one seat was totalled and the other not to far behind. :(

Posted Image

After some hard thinking , some calls and a fair bit of $$$$ i bought these

Posted Image
Posted Image
Posted Image
Posted Image

And door trims
Posted Image

So now i have some second hand seats for sale with plastics on one side and a full set of new looking plastics for both sides of the seats. Ahh the joy of double ups..
The previous car pics were taken a couple of weeks ago and have been told there wasnt to many colours on the car and its now in primer. Ill go for a look tomorrow n get some more pics hopefully. In the mean time i have been giving rares a good workout buying new stuff from indicators to window rubbers ect....I thought whist the flares ,scoop were off id buy some new shiny bolts. It turns out mine are much bigger than the rares ones but a bit of a run around sorted that.

Some people said dont go here or there but went with Vinci chrome and couldnt be happier with the finish. Especially compared to one other exchange chroming place i went to. The finish was far from smooth. I was planning on doing an exchange front n rear bumper but once i pulled mine off they were in such good conditon inside i decided to redo my own.

A local shop that I stumbled across by accident. Very friendly and helpful :)
It's great to hear yours came up so well I can only hope the same for mine.

Well back from my fifo job and slipped over to check on the car. Coming along slowly which is good for me as i over spent buying the interior and other bits n pieces. The guys were making a start on the engine bay n i have to say im wondering how its going to come together as its such a mess in bits n pieces. Yeah i know thats what its supposed to look like.
I bought a rear shelf that is supposed to resemble the original style shelf but im not totally sure what they looked like. This one has a pinch weld type pattern on it.

Posted Image

Any ideas?

Ive bought a few other goodies as well but one thing im pretty stoked about is getting approval for my new personalised plates. They turned up.

Posted Image

I had alot of ideas what i was going to get but went with something more traditional i guess you could call it. I couldnt believe they werent taken. Once i applied for them quite a while back transport told me they had a new rule in regards to personalised plates. That was there can be no more use of words that match any cars name/model ect due to copyright laws in place and that each plate application like this goes in front of a board. News to me. Anyway like em or hate em people i like em n think they will be a nice finishing touch. I bought the old school frames and not sure weather ill use em or not yet.
Thats it for now seeya's :)

Well back home from work for another week and cant believe how damn cold the Pilbra desert can get even during the day :-/ .....Today was filled with a few nasty surprises with the torry. When they removed the bonnet hinges guess what ? Rust :( Ahh well can win em all. They welded in a couple of plates and wamo all fixed :) On the plus side i got there just after they had thrown some colour on the car.

I pushed some dust aside to try n get a pic of the shine. Looks ok i think , even better when they buff it im thinking. Its a bit hard to get a good look as it was very cloudy,

Covered in dust

Another addition to my interior.

Im getting impatient i have to say. I've lost count the amount of times ive been out in the shed polishing the bumpers or painting this n that. Ive also had a steady flow of little things coming in from ebay as well. Nothing to exciting.
The old window tint has seen better days too with bubbles and lifted edges n stuff. Im not real sure what to do on this one. Im thinking that if i tint it back it maybe to dark. Black on black. Perhaps if i break it up with chrome into back tint? Then again i think that may look abit cheesy...Ahh well ill pull off the old stuff n tackle it when the time comes i guess. :)

Nice stuff!
Chrome trims around the windows will break up the colour nicely :)

I only have the chrome around the top. With any luck it will be enough to break it up.
It turns out they painted my grille gloss instead of satin. Partly my fault but has to be repainted satin now.

They are still in the car, I'll be pulling them out in a couple of weeks when I get the car back. I'll be buying some isolation , probably Dynomat , fishoil or waxing in the rust prone areas. Tar the underbody ect. All the interior, throw in the UC stuff. The list goes on Once it's back it's time for me to get my hands dirty and I can't wait :)

Well back again from another week in the Pilbra working and was called into the panel beaters for some bad news. Although last week after paint the car looked great to me Gary (the painter) tells me there was an issue with the paint itself. Aparently at a certian angle in sunlight the paint had a strange colour tone to it. He couldnt really explain it any better than thet. He called in his paint supplier to check it out but by this time the sun had moved and they couldnt see anything. There wasnt any actual inperfection in the texture or paint itself apparently just some weird colour tone. The Perth sun wasnt playing the game to see the issue but eventually came out whilst the paint guy was there and it turns out there is definately an issue. So bringing it back to today Gary informs me they are starting again. A full redo ! I checked the car over and couldnt see anything but hes not happy with it. I have to thank him for his honesty as i probably wouldnt have noticed.
So as dissappointed as i am not getting my baby back so i can get my hands dirty i'm happy all the same. Soooo thanks Gary !!! :) :)

This reminds me of a friend who had issues with Subaru WRX's, he kept returning them to the dealer saying the paint on the doors didn't match the bonnet, boot, etc.

His dad works at an exclusive panel shop dealing with Ferrari's and the like so he could pick a dodgy paintjob. He reckons Mitsubishi must paint the doors separately or at different angles and the paint settles/dries differently, either way he wasn't impressed.

good to hear there are still people around willing to look after the customer and have pride in their work if you were happy the first time you should be happier the second time when its done good luck
