Group C/A Replica Racing - There must be a way!

Hi Makka,

One of the criteria that we are looking at is that the car is a replica of an actual race vehicle, so it would need to look as close as possible to the original car. If you wanted to run an LH without flares, you could run a replica of Alan Grice's SLR 5000 though... :D

Interesting in the last AMC magazine they featured relpica race/road cars...including Rockets orange hatch Bob Jane car...maybe the time is ripe for the thing to happen.

Rocket, not to take anything away from your car (i'm sure it is well worthy of the invitation) But I see the invitation from the GroupC/A to a "replica" as the writing being on the wall kinda thing....
Power from the past was fairly poorly attended last year given the promotion it recieved....
I'd say the group C/A are already looking at replicas to bolster their numbers..... But of course you will only be a static display....
*said with your best Winston Churchill voice...Couldn't have those "poor" replicas running around with "our fine examples"
Bugger that I say.... full steam ahead.... REPLICA RACING IS THE FUTURE!

Seems to be a fair amount of bickering in this post. What does it matter if they're the original car or not- if people want to race replicas just go ahead and do it, they'd be a better car anyway. There has been the odd doubtful car in the group c / a category which effectively makes them a replica once they were picked. As mentioned earlier the NZ MC series has proven the popularity of such a class (all though they are extreme and effectively supercars) It's supported well over there from a relatively smaller population. BUILD IT AND OTHERS WILL FOLLOW. i BAGS THE FORBES A9X HATCH GOLDEN ARCHES SCHEME

I JUMPED THE GUN - THOUGHT THE FORD FORUM DUDE WAS A MEMBER AND HAVING A WHINGE IN THIS POST. AS FAR AS RACE MEETINGS GO- WE CAN EFFECTIVELY HOLD OUR OWN GIVEN THE RIGHT ADMINISTRATION - ANYTHING IN THE PIPELINE TO CREATE A CLUB? HOW MANY DEFINEATE CARS SO FAR?

Probably about 20....more will follow when the word spreads...agree with Greg...the A/C guys are suddenly realising what I said 12 months ago is coming true...they all pointed to the P.I. meeting where they were wall to wall.....then the prices went sky high...then the Grice hatch and Anna Camerons L34 got damaged at the Sandown meeting....now the second thoughts are creaping in...Do I want to total my $250-300K genuine Group C???....

I was thinking that, or the HDT one, it looks better!

I can fit 8's maybe 9's under the back and 7's or even 8's under the front too, that will do me for a start :spoton:

Makka, are you thinking about making your car handle and brake as well as go fast?

Doubt you will get 15 x 9 under the rear..if its 13/14s you are looking at the tyre selection is a bit ordinary...just a thought.

this is a great idea ive been reading every post now what i would like to no is i have a rx7 rotary would i be able to put a cage in and build t as a replica car because they raced in that era aswell or is it piston motors only.

TORLX8 has 9's under his unlfared, untubbed LX hatch, I have had a 17x8 with a 245 tyre under there with heaps of room so 15x8 will be no problem, I have had 17x8 with a 235 under the front.
Rodomo, my car stops well now, but I am lkooking into making another one handle well and go well, not any time in the next year though

Makka, Check the rolling of a 15 x 8...they are my wets and barely fit under the flares..

Rory, here is a pic of mine with the 17x8's on the front, there was more room to move them in a tad and the car is pretty low and the diameter with the 17's would probably be more than a set of 15's
I just checked too, that pic is with the 245's

At this point in time I think we need to get the word out there (outside this forum) to try and get enough people interested in it to get things moving further.

It seems that everyone is happy enough with the rules, do we need to fine tune them? If not maybe print off some copies and hand them out to anyone that might be interested - maybe at some local car clubs or similar and see if we can get some more people on board.

We really need to get a group in each state going, with some people that will want to build some cars according to the rules, and go from there...

The Vic Motor Racing Championship (VMRC) which is run by the AASA, has a class called Super TT.
Basically it caters for any old racecar that doesn't fit into a specific class anymore, like my ex Commodore Cup car. Rules ? I'm not sure there are any. You can run anything. It runs at Calder and Winton. I'm not sure if the other states have this.
Often the class has less than 10 cars in it.
If the people interested in this replica class made a big effort, and all turned up on the same weekend, it would be possible to have over half the field made up with replicas, now if a couple of motorsport magazines happened to be there on the day, and maybe even a few words in the right ear might get a TV crew along, the replica class could actually get off the ground unofficially with no trouble at all.

Of course Rory would have to drive slow so the rest of us could keep up, it would be a much better spectacle if the racing was close........
