Went to a Hillclimb on Sunday and won my class. The new track suits my car much better than the old track did, and now that I'm starting to remember where it goes, I am able to go faster than some of the cars that used to always beat me. Only one more meeting for the year, I think as long as I turn up I should win the Class Championship, but I'll be trying to get my hands on another trophy while I can, I sure won't win anything if I ever make it to Improved Production State Series.

Being the last for the year it attracted a huge entry list - 120 cars.
This is too many really, but due to some heavy rain near the end of the 2nd session a lot of people packed up and left, so we had time for another couple of runs once the rain stopped. Driving on a wet track is a lot of fun, especially in a V8 with a locked diff - lots of sideways !!!!!
I won my class again (Sports Sedans over 2 Litre) and I think I've won the class championship for 2008. Its been a long year with 5 Hillclimbs and 4 Sprints, I've barely touched the car all year except for when I broke the cam at Winton and bent some valves, otherwise its been stored in a mates shed and I haven't been near it.
I've just bought a house so the car can come back and live with me and I can continue to develop it. (Got to stay a step ahead of Rodomo!)
I suggest anyone who likes to have a fang in their car should join a car club and do your hooning on the track where it's legal.
Here is my collection of trophys from my last 4 outings, a 2nd a 3 1st's

Where is the new place?

P.S. 1 step ahead won't compare to "leaps & bounds" at RoDoMo racing.

It must have been a slow news week last week, Auto Action published the results for the Hillclimb I did on Dec 6th so I got my name in Auto Action for the first time.
Our Club Newsletter came last week with the 2008 results, I came 1st in my class (Sports Sedans Over 2001cc) and 6th in the overall results. There was 11 rounds and I did 9 of them.

I took it to the Phillip Island Hillclimb back in May, I won my class, but there was only 2 of us in it, so no big deal, highlight of the day was a massive lose at Lukey Heights, I'm still finding white pebbles in strange places from the gravel trap.
On Sunday we had a (GCC) Hillclimb at Bryant Park (New Haunted Hills Track), we were using a new track configuration , making use of a crossover in the middle of the track which allows a figure 8 circuit to be used.
Now last year I won my class at the last 2 Hillclimbs at this track, so I was expecting big things, especially as a lap record was up for grabs.
Well how wrong was I ?????
I could not come to grips with this circuit and on every run I managed to either leave the track or spend so much time sideways that my laptimes were shot.
Coming into the last run for the day I was determined to take it easier through the sections of track I was struggling with and just try and put a smooth lap together. I was 7th in class and hoped to at least get up to 4th or 5th.
All was going well until I put the power down coming out of the 2nd last corner - BANG !!! Apparently the bang could be heard from the other side of the track!

That's what you get for using non-genuine parts.

The track started off wet which didn't help. Going up the real steep bit instead of down was awesome, definitely the steepest track I've ever driven on, I'm wondering if this contributed to my gearbox woes. All that torque going through the poor old Supra box.
You must have got the Torana fixed quickly?
I'll try and get another gearbox and make it back there later in the month to the VHCC meeting,

No, they are helical cut gears. Mick must be too depressed to answer you?

The 1st Jap Wrecker I rang asked what I wanted it for, good ol Honest Mick told him and then he refused to sell me one.
The next next Jap Wrecker asked the same question but got a different answer......
So the car is going again. I should look at a gearbox upgrade maybe to a T10 or Top Loader, but I'm a bit broke after building and concreting my new shed so it will have to wait.

50 teams with 6 cars/drivers per team.
Just had my first practice session, I have never passed so many cars before, it is scary, my laptimes were way off my best yet every lap I reckon I passed 8-10 cars.
Some of these people have never been here before so by tomorrow they should be a bit more predictable but today its mayhem.
Car felt squirmish but when I cake in I check ed the tyres and had 40 psi (hot) so I've adjusted them. Had a bit of fuel surge coming out of corners which I've never had before, better check float levels.
