thanks it wasnt so bad i found it easy to keep straight and it only happened at like 40 but was a shock to find the wheel gone and thanks for the offer on the guard but ill go to the torana wreckers nearby and get one there

time for some recent pics (sorry bout the quality they were too big to upload so i retook them with the phone so they would load up)
first i replaced the inlet manifold gasket and we ground down the extractors so the washers sat flat against them and the inlet manifold

then yesterday my front wheel nuts came loose and i lost the front wheel and snapped a stud off the front guard is rooted

and all stripped back getting new ball joints and lower arm bushes

should have the lower arm bushes done tomorrow and hopefully ball joints by the end of the week. i have a spare disc and disc guard so they will go on then it all goes back together, both sides are getting the same done.

I'm not sure yet but i may also do the wheel bearings and sway bar bushes.
hopefully its drive-able again by the end of this week or sometime next week

well today i got an early christmas present which was a front end rebuild kit including epper and lower arm bushes and ball joints, tie rod ends and sway bar bushes. so im currently trying to drop the front cross member but leave the motor in the car held up by the engine crane

should get the upper and lower arms back today with the bushes and ball joints done then hopefully it goes back together smoothly

It'll need a wheel alignment after all this work too Steve.

that comes after its back together im also doing the brake pads and need a new hotwire because where the wheel nuts go rounded out a bit

got everything back today and started assembling it get it nearly done and i snap a shock bolt so tomorrow the lower arm will be out again to get the rest of the bolt in and i should have the drivers side together again easily

is there any way to get them out while there the arm is in the car because i really dont want to pop my brand new ball joints

yeah i can get the shock out i just need to get the broken bolt out of the lower arm

can i put it together then use the one bolt and get the local mechanic to do it while in the car

probly be best not drive with 1 bolt holding shock in

thanks that might be the way to go as i could hopefully manage doing that in the car ... ill get the passengers side back together then ill work out what im doing

ok so i managed to get the broken bolt out and the passengers side is together all except caliper and greasing the ball joints and the drivers side needs the bearings packed and the disc put on so hopefully its all together tomorrow and all goes smoothly

its all back together and drivable now but when under stess there is a chrunch or pinging sound in the passengers side what could be causing this?

thanks there is also a forum member who makes a power steering kit for toranas i paid 5k for this one which was a little overpriced. and chopper it was all tightened on the ground i even drove it round the block b4 i tightened it up... could it be the spring not seated right at the top? and i know the bottom is

The tail of the spring may be too far into the spring seat pocket in the lower control arm.

Lovells Fitting Instructions

Leave 1/4" to 1/2" space between the end of the coil and the spring seat pocket. This will help prevent spring noise when encountering large bumps.

thanks for that its all fixed now, the brakes need adjusting and it needs a wheel alignment. but while im driving something feels different and not the same cant feel what it is but ill get the local mechanic to look over it
